119.(simple) Healthy recipe --- stir fry red onion with broccoli (V)

It is a recipe from my dad -- he has been very supportive, since I started writing this blog. Here, he just introduced a new recipe to me -- a beautiful and healthy dish, simply stir fry red onion with broccoli.

My dad has always been very conscious with ‘healthy food’, ha… probably you already heard me talking about this a few times. He gets more serious and strict with healthy ‘concept’ when he steps into his late 50s and now 60s. Now, this recipe he made is not only for the taste, but also, as his intention -- it is a super healthy recipe, which can give you lots of healthy benefits.

Red onion was only introduced to China in recent years, but it nutritious properties became popular almost immediately. For example, of which my dad always mentions (when persuading me to eat) are lowering cholesterol, relaxing the vascular and coronary artery, and helping the excretion of the salt in the body. With combination of broccoli --- you can imagine how healthy it can be. But just like any other ‘healthy recipes’, it needs to be taken regularly in order to have the ‘healthy result’.

I am not a very big fan of either of them, but the good thing is that this recipe makes the taste very light, and both vegetables are still crunchy and juicy, so you are not getting tired of it easily. At the same time, there is no ‘rawness’ from broccoli, and the no ‘spiciness’ from the red onion. --- Oh, then you don’t have to worry about the breath smell as you might have after having raw red onion.

The cooking is super super simple, it really takes no time.

Here you go.

Ingredients:

Broccoli, red onion, garlic, salt, oil, corn flour, cooking wine, MSG/vegetable/mushroom/chicken essence (Optional)

Preparation:

1) Cut the broccoli into smaller size florets, and wash it.
2) Briefly boil the broccoli in the water with a bit salt for getting rid of the its rawness only.
3) Chop the red onion and around 4 garlic gloves slices.
4) Mix 1 teaspoon corn flour with 1/4 cup of water.

Cooking:

1) Sit the wok on medium to strong fire. When the wok is 60% heated up, add in 2-3 tablespoons of oil.
2) When the oil is getting heated up, add in chopped garlic.
When the garlic’s smell rising up from the wok, add in prepared broccoli and red onion. Stir fry.
3) Then add in around 2 teaspoons of cooking wine, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of MSG/vegetable/mushroom/chicken essence (Optional).
4) Keep on stir fry for further 3 minutes, or before the red onion gets soft, add in corn flour mix. Allow it mix well with everything in the wok. ---

---- Done!!!

Super simple, no? And very light & healthy. :)

It is a good combination with boiled rice, or noodle dishes.
